Historic Albia town square block on fire

ALBIA, Iowa — Multiple fire crews are battling a blaze at a building off of Albia’s town square Monday.

According to Albia Newspapers, Inc., the fire is at the historic R.O. Cramer Block, which is on Washington Avenue East, on the south side of the Courthouse Square. The newspaper reports fire departments from Eddyville and Centerville are on the scene assisting the Albia Fire Department.

Thick smoke and flames were visible coming from the structure in images provided to WHO 13 by Jeff Ewoldt.

Albia is in Monroe County, about 70 miles southeasth of Des Moines.
