One dead in crash following police chase in Clear Lake

CLEAR LAKE, Iowa — One person was killed in a crash following a police chase in Clear Lake on Sunday morning.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a driver was attempting to evade law enforcement when they crashed at 4th Avenue South and South Shore Drive just after 1:30 a.m.

Authorities say the 22-year-old driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when they lost control of the vehicle, struck a tree, and then an unoccupied house and two parked vehicles.

The driver sustained injuries during the collision. They were taken to a Mason City hospital where they were pronounced dead. Authorities have not released the name of the driver.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Clear Lake Police and Fire Department and the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office.
