Forecast: Update on Thursday night storms

DES MOINES, Iowa — We’re still watching storms over southern Iowa for the possibility of severe weather as of Thursday afternoon. Storms will move in from the Omaha area this evening, most likely arriving in the I-35 corridor around midnight. These could produce strong winds, but our attention will quickly turn to heavy rainfall and the possibility of flooding in some areas.

Some computer models produce isolated totals of 5-10″. Scattered storms will continue Friday, with heavy rain still possible in spots and a stronger storm late in the day. The slideshow below takes you through the timing.

Rainfall should end sometime Saturday morning. General totals are shown below, but again we’ll see more in isolated areas. The next rain chance comes late Tuesday.
