One detained following shooting in River Bend neighborhood, DMPD investigates

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department says one person has been detained following a shooting in the River Bend neighborhood.

According to DMPD, just before 9 p.m., officers were called to Ohio Street and University Avenue on reports of gunshots. Officers detained a potential suspect and recovered a handgun within minutes of arrival.

One person was injured by gunfire and has been transported to a Des Moines hospital by the Des Moines Fire Department.

Des Moines police say this is potentially related to an ongoing hit-and-run crash investigation at 2nd Avenue and Hull Avenue.
