President Trump talks bill passage, America250 celebration, more at Iowa State Fairgrounds

DES MOINES, Iowa –  President Donald Trump made his first public speech after the reconciliation bill was passed at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

The timing just happened to work out with the passage of the bill and the president speaking at the America250 kickoff celebration. Supporters packed University Avenue on their way to the grounds to get their seats, in some cases seven to eight hours before the president was scheduled to speak.

“There could be no better birthday present for America than the phenomenal victory we achieved when Congress passed the One Big, Beautiful Bill to Make America Great Again,” said Trump. He touted the border investments and agriculture policy in the bill, calling it important to Iowa farmers.

“Not one Democrat voted for us,” said the president. “And I think we use it in the campaign that’s coming up, the midterms, because we got to beat them. But all of the things that we have given, and they wouldn’t vote, because they hate Trump. But I hate them too, you know that.”

A majority of the speech centered around the passage of the bill, immigration and tax policy; but it was a special announcement that Trump had been teasing that Iowa supporters of his had been waiting for.

“We will be orchestrating what we’re calling the Great American State Fair and it will start right here in Iowa,” said President Trump, not giving specifics on what it would include but emphasizing it would happen at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, a commitment he had made on the campaign trail. Some of the events in store for the America250, according to Trump, include the Patriot Games, involving America’s youth. He said Secretary Robert Kennedy, Jr. will be organizing that.

“So, every one of our national parks, battlefields and historic sites are going to have special events in honor of America250,” said Trump. “And I think we are going to have a UFC fight, does anybody watch UFC? The great Dana White. We are going to have a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House.”

Iowa GOP Chair Jeff Kaufmann, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird spoke at the event before the President spoke at 7:30 p.m. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds was in attendance but did not speak.

The entire Iowa Congressional Delegation was in attendance, with all four of Iowa’s U.S. Representatives getting a ride on Air Force One back to Des Moines, as the reconciliation bill passed just hours before the start of his speech.

Also in attendance were Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
