Percy Butler, 35, has been identified as the victim in Wednesday’s shooting, said Des Moines Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Paul Parizek.

Butler was found on the ground outside of the apartments at 3600 Kennedy Drive just after 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, after multiple calls came in to 911 about shots being heard in the area. Butler had been shot, and officers provided first aid on the scene until he could be transported to the hospital by Des Moines Fire Department medics. He died later at the hospital.

Wednesday night, DMPD announced an arrest had been made in the shooting. Tywone Morrow, 31, was charged with first-degree murder and assault on a police officer. Sgt. Parizek said evidence in the investigation indicated Morrow shot Butler during an argument.

Morrow is being held in the Polk County Jail.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
