Iowa congressional delegation reacts to passage of Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’

IOWA — On Thursday, U.S. House Republicans passed President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” sending it to the president who will reportedly sign the bill into law on Friday. The bill entails extending and expanding Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, crackdowns on immigration, and cuts to programs like Medicaid and SNAP.

All four of Iowa’s congressional delegation voted to pass the bill and released the following statements.

Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, the historic One Big Beautiful Bill will soon be the law of the land. This transformative legislation enacts tax cuts for working Iowans, permanently secures the border, and strengthens Medicaid for vulnerable populations while rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse. When the Left had power under Biden, they worked to track your Venmo transactions and hired an army of IRS agents; Republicans under President Trump are ending taxes on tips and hiring border patrol agents. Nearly 80 million Americans voted for this commonsense, conservative agenda, and I’m proud to work with President Trump to deliver a stronger, safer and more prosperous America and Iowa.

Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (R) IA First District

President Trump’s ‘One, Big, Beautiful Bill’ is the largest tax cut for Iowa families, farmers, workers, seniors, and small businesses in American history. This legislation will dramatically grow our economy, cut deficits, spur U.S. manufacturing, fully fund the border wall, and support American energy independence. It will also help our Main Street businesses invest in their operations and hire new employees while delivering additional death tax relief for farmers, ensuring that Iowa farmland can be passed to the next generation — not China. President Trump’s ‘One, Big, Beautiful Bill’ will unleash economic growth and rural prosperity in Iowa and nationwide.

Congressman Randy Feenstra (R) IA Fourth District

The bill we’re sending to the President’s desk locks in the largest middle-class tax cut in American history. It rewards hard work, fuels growth on Main Street, and puts more money back in the pockets of Iowa families. It protects benefits for our most vulnerable by cutting out waste and fraud, strengthens our national defense by investing in border security, and positions Iowa farmers and producers to lead the charge in delivering affordable, American-made energy

Congressman Zach Nunn (R) IA Third District

Today, the House delivered on the mandate given to us by 77 million Americans and passed President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. This legislation prevents the largest tax hike on Iowa families and small businesses in history by making the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent. It reduces taxes on tips and overtime, doubles the child tax credit, gives seniors a $6,000 tax break, brings manufacturing jobs back to America, and restores our energy dominance. After four years of crushing inflation and high energy costs under Joe Biden, this bill delivers the relief hardworking Americans deserve. It also secures the border for good, ending catch-and-release, finishing the fence, and hiring thousands of new agents with the tools to stop crime, fentanyl, and chaos. This bill strengthens and preserves Medicaid for those it was meant to serve: children, pregnant women, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities. It also delivers $50 billion in relief for rural hospitals serving communities like ours. This is a once-in-a-generation victory for the American people. I was proud to vote for it and look forward to President Trump signing it into law just in time for Independence Day.

Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R) IA Second District

Several of Iowa’s congressional delegation are facing reelection in the 2026 Midterms, including Nunn and Miller-Meeks. Their democratic opponents also released statements condemning the passage of the bill.

More than 27,000 Iowans in the Third District are going to lose their healthcare because of Zach Nunn. Because of Zach Nunn, nearly 350 rural hospitals will be at risk of closure and more than half of nursing homes say they would be forced to cut beds — more than a quarter say they’d be forced to close.

Zach Nunn just voted to raise costs on working Iowans, kill millions of jobs, and for that largest gutting of Medicaid in history — all to pay for the tax breaks for his billionaire donors.

I’ve been all over this district doing what Zach Nunn won’t: actually sitting down with Iowans and listening to them. And everywhere I go, Iowans are scared about losing healthcare access. We know what happens when a community loses their hospital. When I met with providers at Clive Behavioral Health, they told me 60% of their patients are on Medicaid. When I met with the hospital administrator at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, they told me how hard it would be to keep their doors open without Medicaid.

Iowans deserve better than someone who’s selling us out. I’ve fought like hell against cuts to our healthcare in the statehouse and I’m ready to keep fighting in Congress.

State Representative Jennifer Konfrst (D), IA Third Congressional District Candidate

Mariannette Miller-Meeks has had three terms in Congress — three chances to do right by the people of Iowa. She has failed us every time. If we want to change Washington, we’ve got to change the people we send there.

Christina Bohannan (D), IA Fourth Congressional District Candidate

Late Tuesday night the bill scraped out of the U.S. Senate with a tie vote that was broken by Vice President J.D. Vance to send it to the House. Iowa’s two senators — Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst — voted to pass the bill.
