1 dead in overnight east side Des Moines shooting

DES MOINES, Iowa — One man is dead following a shooting on Des Moines’ east side early Wednesday morning.

Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer for the Des Moines Police Department, said officers responded to 3600 Kennedy Drive just after 12:15 a.m. on a report of a shooting. Callers to 911 reported hearing multiple gunshots fired and saw a person on the ground outside of an apartment building.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male who had been shot. First aid was provided on the scene until medics with the Des Moines Fire Department arrived and transported the shooting victim to UnityPoint-Methodist Medical Center.

Sgt. Parizek said despite efforts to save the man’s life, he died just before 4:00 a.m. The victim’s name has not been released at this time.

The preliminary investigation indicates this was a directed incident, and there isn’t an ongoing danger to the neighborhood.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting as of yet, but the investigation continues.

This is the second criminal homicide of 2025 in the city of Des Moines.
