DES MOINES, Iowa — A body was recovered from the Des Moines River Monday night near Yellow Banks Park, and officials believe the remains are those of a man who went missing while swimming over the weekend.
Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer for the Des Moines Police Department, said DMPD was contacted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office just before 7:45 Monday night after people on the river spotted a body in the water.
The Pleasant Hill Fire Department, the Hartford Fire Department, and Polk County Conservation recovered the body of an adult male from the river.
Sgt. Parizek said the preliminary investigation indicates the body is that of a swimmer who went missing on June 28th near Principal Park. A seven-year-old child was rescued from the same incident.
Police have not released the name of the man.
More information is expected to be released at a later date.
