DES MOINES, Iowa — One person was critically injured in a home explosion in Des Moines on Monday.

The Des Moines Police Department and Des Moines Fire Department responded to a reported home explosion at around 2:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Sampson Street. According to the DMPD, an adult female was injured in the explosion and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Sampson Street from Hull Avenue to E Sheridan Avenue is closed as the investigation into the explosion and subsequent fire unfolds, the DMPD said.
