One in critical condition after shooting on south side of Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department said it is investigating a shooting on the south side of Des Moines that occurred just before 5 a.m.

According to the department, that is when patrol officers and Des Moines Fire personnel first responders went to the 400 block of E. Philip Street, on reports of a shooting at an apartment complex.

When officers arrived on scene, they found an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. Police provided first aid until medics were able to take over once on the scene. The gunshot wound victim is in critical condition and was transported to UnityPoint – Methodist Medical Center where care is ongoing at this time.

DMPD said that there was no ongoing danger or threat to those in the surrounding area. Detectives are continuing to collect evidence this morning, while interviewing witnesses. There have been no arrests made at this time, and no one else was injured in the incident. More information on the shooting will be released when the department is able to.
