DES MOINES, Iowa — One-of-a-kind treasures are on full display in Des Moines on Sunday for the bi-annual Vintage in the Valley event.
Christina Crook is the organizer of Vintage in the Valley. She also owns a small business called Upcycled DSM in Valley Junction, where she sells antiques, furniture, collectibles, and more.
She started Vintage in the Valley as a way to showcase local businesses in Valley Junction, but it has now expanded to a larger venue.
This is the first year the event is taking place at Water Works Park in Des Moines. The additional space allows for more vendors and more activities.
There are around 100 vendors selling vintage clothing, jewelry, decorations, books, household items, etc., but the additional space also allowed for food trucks and live music.
“I’m really excited. The community has really supported Vintage in the Valley and all of our vendors are amazing,” said Crook.
One of the vendors is Ross Battani. He has collected vintage items his whole life, and has participated in every Vintage in the Valley event.
“There’s a lot of different items and experiences,” said Battani.
He finds his items by going to garage sales and thrift stores, but he has also shopped from other vendors at the event. Battani accepts cash and Venmo payments.
Vintage in the Valley kicks off at 10 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m. at the Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park.
Crook said the next Vintage in the Valley will be in October, also at Water Works Park.
