One injured during Ames apartment fire Saturday afternoon

AMES, Iowa — One person sustained injuries during an apartment fire in Ames on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Ames Fire Department, Ames fire crews responded to a reported structure fire in the 4300 block of Ontario Street in Ames at approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and encountered heavy smoke inside one of the apartment units. Fire crews contained the fire to a single unit. No damage has been reported in the neighboring units.

One occupant sustained burn injuries and was evaluated on scene by Mary Greeley Medical Center paramedics. Ames PD says as a result of the incident, one family has been displaced.

The Ames FD says two firefighters were taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center for treatment of heat-related symptoms.

An investigation has been opened into the cause of the fire.
