JOHNSTON, Iowa — The Indo-American Association of Iowa celebrated International Yoga Day at Johnston Green Days by hosting a yoga event on Saturday morning.
Yoga started at 8 a.m. at the Terra Park in Johnston and was led by Sanjay Srivastava. Around 30 people participated. The event officially kicked off the final day of Johnston Green Days.
The president of the organization, Prakash Kopparapu, said yoga is a traditional Indian activity focused on bettering one’s health and fitness. The event allows the organization yo share their culture with other Iowans.
“Being an ambassador you always need a team to present the culture and heritage,” he said. “These are the opportunities where we diversify… to diversified presentations as we are evolving into a more diverse society.”
Their next event is India Day, which will be celebrated on August 2nd.
Johnston Green Days opened up their events, inflatables, live music, and food trucks at 11 a.m. Saturday. Events run till 11 p.m. when the festival finishes with a fireworks show. View at full list of activities at the Johnston Green Days website.
