Fire at hay storage barn at Iowa State University Dairy

AMES, Iowa — Fire crews were called out to a hay storage barn at the Iowa State University Dairy Barn after smoke was reported coming from the structure early Friday morning.

The Ames Fire Department said the call came in at 2:30 a.m. about the fire at 52540 260th Street. Staff from Iowa State used heavy equipment to remove bales of hay from the building in order to allow firefighters better access to the burning material, which is in the center of the structure.

As of 7:30 a.m., the APD said fire crews were still working to put out the fire.

The Kelley/Westory Fire Association, Huxley Fire Rescue, and Slater Fire Department are all assisting APD with rural water supply operations at the scene.
