DES MOINES, Iowa — Adventureland Resort held its first-ever Father’s Day Flop contest, which saw dads across the metro making quite a splash.

Tami Hansen, the Marketing Director for Adventure Land Resort, said that Adventureland decided to hold the contest after seeing its success at other parks.

“Some of our sister parks do it, our friends out at Noah’s Ark does a Father’s Day park every year, it goes over really well, and we just thought the dads here in Iowa would like it as well,” Hansen said.

Dads entered the contest to win gift cards from Prairie Meadows Casino. They were judged on performance, best flop, and crowd noise.

CJ Ward, the 1st place winner of the Father’s Day Flop Contest, said that there’s a lot of strategy involved in the perfect belly flop.

“I waited till the water kind of got a little calmer so it’d be more flat so I could make it louder pop. And I jumped as high as I could and full Bald Eagle,” Ward said.

Ward said that having his family watch helped him compete.

“I sat there and told them that I was going to go out and win. I may not have the mass like some of the other dads, but I fully committed,” Ward said.
