WAPELLO COUNTY, Iowa — Two children were airlifted to the hospital after a crash between a pickup truck and an ATV Sunday morning in Wapello County.
The crash happened around 11:28 a.m. in the 16000 block of 15th Street, southwest of Ottumwa, according to the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office. The preliminary investigation indicated a pickup truck driven by 55-year-old Louis Testa Jr. was traveling eastbound on 15th Street when an ATV ridden by two boys, aged 7 and 12, pulled out from a farm driveway and into the pickup truck’s path.
The boys were thrown from the ATV by the force of the collision, and both suffered injuries.
The WCSO said two air ambulances were called to the scene and the boys were airlifted by MercyOne Air Med.
Officials have not released the names of the boys or their conditions.
