DES MOINES, Iowa — Thousands of protestors gathered on the west side of the Iowa Capitol Building Saturday afternoon for the No Kings Protest.
“No Kings” protestors gathered across Iowa and the country, drawing millions in total. From noon to 2 p.m., thousands gathered at the Iowa State Capitol with signs, chants, and more.
Charlotte Vanlengen, a No Kings Protestor, said she came to the protest because she disagrees with the Trump Administration’s actions.
“I can’t stand the insanity that Trump is bringing into our country. What he’s doing in Los Angeles with the ice raids, going into schools, graduations. That’s just crazy,” Vanlengen said.
Doug Hausman, a No Kings Protestor, said that he came to the protest because he wants Trump to be impeached.
“To get rid of Trump, to take care of the veterans, to take care of the elderly, the Social Security we needed. We cannot lose that stuff. That’s very important,” Hausman said.
Donna Ragner, a No Kings Protestor, said she came to the protest because she believes democracy is in danger.
“I’ve always been for democracy. I’m a 50-year daughter’s American Revolution lady that does volunteer here all the time. And since I’m absolutely involved, as much as they can have a slowed-down person be involved, this was important. Democracy is important,” Ragner said.
