DES MOINES, Iowa – WHO 13 is welcoming a well-known and well-loved local meteorologist back to the airwaves in Des Moines. Brad Edwards will join WHO 13 at the beginning of July as a contributor.
Brad is a native Iowan but also went on a “whirlwind” tour of the United States before returning to central Iowa. Brad was born in Des Moines and then moved to Earlham by school age. While loving all types of science, he was inspired by his father to be a meteorologist, as they would watch thunderstorms develop, sometimes going up on the roof!
After graduation from Earlham High School, he headed north to Ames to attend Iowa State University. There, Brad created a storm chasing team and actually spotted a tornado on their very first trip! He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology in 1987.
His first TV experience came during his senior year of college when he worked at WOI-TV doing morning weather cut-ins. After taking broadcast meteorology jobs in Florida, Kansas, and The Weather Channel in Atlanta, Brad came full circle back to his home in central Iowa. He was the chief meteorologist at Local 5 for more than 28 years.
Brad enjoys being outdoors, including gardening, golfing, and hanging out with friends and family. You will find him at ISU football games, among other places. He has three children and six grandchildren who keep him feeling young! He is excited to be back in the “weather saddle” with WHO 13 because there is nothing more exciting than Iowa’s weather!
