Hot today with slight storm chances ahead

IOWA — The promised heat and muggy conditions have arrived, and for the most part, they’re here to stay. The weather timeline steps us into Friday.

The Storm Prediction Center has kept northern Iowa in a marginal risk for severe weather. We’ll see storms fire in northern Iowa later today as energy builds in the atmosphere. Heavy downpours, gusty winds, and hail will be possible.

The marginal risk will continue for parts of Iowa on Thursday. We’ll see late-day pop-up storms.

As we move forward, it almost appears that late afternoon and evening storms are at least a slight possibility every day. Saturday’s may linger into Sunday morning. Severe chances look low until Monday, when we’ll have more energy to work with for stronger storms later in the day.

Highs for the following six days are in the slideshow above, and your WHO 13 7-day outlooks below.

Highs look to stay in the mid-80s, and dewpoints in the 60s, keeping fuel around for storms and possible heavy rain through the 8-14-day time period.
