Forecast: Thursday raindrops, then heat

DES MOINES, Iowa — As forecast, we managed to add a few degrees to yesterday’s highs, while raindrops fell in some parts of the state. Your weather timeline walks you into an even warmer Thursday:

Cold air aloft combined with the slow rotation of an upper level area of low pressure gave us the ingredients for cold air funnel clouds today. These rarely make contact with the ground. It’s possible we could see a couple more on Thursday.

Lows tonight will be cool once again as showers diminish. The morning hours on Thursday should be dry for most.

A fast moving upper level disturbance could set off a few showers and storms late Saturday afternoon into the early evening, as shown below. The next best chance for thunderstorms comes Tuesday into Wednesday. Highs for the next 6 days follow:

Your WHO 13 7-day forecasts:

Our weather pattern changes into the weekend, as you see above, as hotter air moves in just in time for June. The 6-to-10 and 8-to-14-day outlooks both point to above-average temperatures, and the precipitation outlook below points to the possibility of heavier rain.
