DES MOINES, Iowa — Governor Kim Reynolds will sign a bill that looks to improve rural health care in Iowa.
The bill started as a proposal from the Governor herself, as a way to address worker shortages and expand health care services in rural areas. It received bipartisan support in both chambers.
The bill, HF 972, includes measures to create 460 residency spots over four years at Iowa’s 14 training hospitals. It also helps doctors repay their medical school loans if they practice in select rural areas for five years following residency.
Gov. Reynolds will sign the bill Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center.
