DES MOINES, Iowa — Weak funnel clouds are popping up in northern Iowa this afternoon. Funnel clouds are possible due to the current atmospheric conditions. These funnel clouds are typically brief, lower only a few hundred feet from the cloud base, and rarely become a tornado or cause damage.

Four funnel clouds have been reported in Central Iowa this afternoon around 1 PM. One each in Franklin, Marshall, Story, and Pocahontas counties. Weak funnel clouds are possible in northern Iowa this afternoon. The funnels are unlikely to reach the ground or cause damage. There is not enough lift available for these funnels to turn into a tornado. The same weather situation will be possible on Thursday with a similar weather setup during the peak heating of the day.
