Cool Spring to Summer warmth this week for Iowa

An upper-level low is slowly moving through the Central Plains and Upper Midwest, bringing cloudy and cool weather to Central Iowa on Tuesday.

Rainfall amounts will be very low. As of 5 AM, most spots have only received a few one-hundredths of an inch, with not much more to come despite showers in the forecast.

Showers will continue to be very scattered in nature through the afternoon and overnight. They’ll transition more to the northeast corner of the state overnight and into Wednesday morning.

Here’s a look at what to expect through Thursday, as clouds will continue to swirl around the low in this timeframe, keeping temperatures below average and the potential for afternoon pop-up showers on Wednesday and Thursday.

We will have a big change by the weekend. A ridge of high pressure and warmer air crosses into the Central US.

This will take temperatures above average to the low to mid-80s by the weekend. It will be mainly sunny and dry, with the exception of a stray storm chance on Saturday afternoon and evening.
