DES MOINES, Iowa — Hundreds of Memorial Day celebrations and ceremonies are happening around Iowa on Monday, find a list of events happening around the metro below.
Iowa Gold Star Military Museum
During the event, the museum will host a complimentary breakfast, vendors, and several special exhibits and activities for the community. LifeServe Blood Center will be at the event from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Burke Memorial Park
The Larry Nehring Detachment of the Marine Corps League will host a ceremony near Burke Park at the Polk County Gold Star Memorial honoring fallen soldiers, the event will feature a firing detail.

Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery
The 33rd annual celebration at Highland Memory Garden will feature bagpipes, a gun salute, and a reading of names of veterans buried in the cemetery since Memorial Day 2024.

Iowa Veterans Cemetery Ceremony
The Iowa Veterans Cemetery will host its annual ceremony featuring honors and several speakers. The event will also be livestreamed on their YouTube channel.

Capitol Complex Memorial Day Ceremony
The Larry Nehring Detachment will also be holding a service at the memorials on the south side of the State Capitol Complex. Following the service, Amvets Post 2 will host a luncheon at 2818 5th Avenue, Des Moines.

Indianola Memorial Day Parade
Indianola is observing Memorial Day with a parade that runs from the Warren County Administration Building to the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. After the parade, an honorable tribute will be made for those who lost their lives while in service.
