DES MOINES, Iowa — Campgrounds around Saylorville Lake are at capacity with campers enjoying the outdoors over Memorial Day Weekend.
Dawn Klein, a camper at Prairie Flower Campground, said that she needed to reserve a spot months in advance for Memorial Day Weekend.
“Yes, we set our timer on our phone, so we get on right away so we can get them,” Klein said.
Klein makes a tradition out of camping over Memorial Day weekend.
“We do it a couple of times a year. But Memorial Day, we try to get together. Our friends live on the other side of the state. So, we all meet somewhere in the middle,” Klein said.
Klein recommends Prairie Flower Campground.
“If you’re wanting to camp out here, it’s a great place to come, and it’s clean, and it’s just a great, great place to be,” Klein said.
Tommy Porter, another camper at Prairie Flower Campground, said that he was excited to camp with family.
“I’m with my cousins. This is like a family Memorial Day thing, so I’m just hanging out with them and doing the weather. Um, it’s been nice. I love campgrounds and just hanging out with people. So it’s good to share that with people,” Porter said.
