DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department has released the name of the man killed in a single-vehicle southside crash on Thursday.
According to the DMPD, at approximately 2:31 p.m., DMPD officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 6500 block of Bloomfield Road. Officers arrived and found the vehicle had left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
The driver, 60-year-old Jerome Cook, was announced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Cook was driving a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound on Bloomfield Road at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and crashed into the utility pole, according to the DMPD.
The Des Moines Police Department Traffic Unit continues a technical investigation into the crash.
