HAMBURG, Iowa — A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a semi-trailer truck on Interstate 29 in Fremont County early Saturday morning.

According to a release from the Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred early Saturday at approximately 1:30 a.m. near Hamburg.

A semi was traveling northbound on Interstate 29, near mile marker 1, when a pedestrian entered the roadway for an unknown reason. The semi struck the pedestrian in the travel portion of the road.

The pedestrian, 46-year-old David McClean of Kansas City, Missouri, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and Hamburg Fire Department assisted at the scene. The Iowa State Patrol has opened an investigation into the incident.
