Forecast: Strong storms ahead

DES MOINES, Iowa – With sunshine, we managed to warm up Saturday compared to Friday’s highs. Your weather timeline takes you through changes as we head into Sunday and Monday.

Clouds increase as lows drop into the upper 40’s overnight. Sunday will bring some breezes and a few widely scattered showers during the daytime and evening hours, as shown below.

Monday will be a much different day, with strong winds out of the south bringing hot air and dewpoints to near 60 degrees into Iowa. This will set us up for strong thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. I’ll be posting another blog later this evening as more computer model data comes in dealing specifically with Monday’s storm chances.

Tuesday looks sunny and cooler. Rain chances return Wednesday and Thursday in the form of intermittent shower chances, which look to end Thursday evening. Rainfall amounts from Sunday through Thursday are shown below, courtesy of the European computer model.

Highs for the next six days and your WHO 13 7-day forecasts are shown below. Temperatures stay pretty mild.

The extended forecasts below keep temperatures warm and bring us into what appears to be a drier period. WHO 13 Weather will post an update regarding Monday later Saturday evening!
