Serious injuries reported in Marshall County crash that shut down highway for hours

MARSHALL COUNTY, Iowa — Serious injuries were reported in a crash that shut down a Marshall County highway for several hours on Tuesday.

At around 6:14 a.m. the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a crash in the 3100 block of Highway 146, also known as Zeller Avenue, just north of Gilman. When first responders arrived at the scene, they discovered a car and semi had collided head-on.

According to the sheriff’s office, the car was traveling southbound when it crossed over the center line and crashed into the northbound semi.

The driver of the car was mechanically extricated and was transported to a hospital by a LifeFlight helicopter, the sheriff’s office said. The semi driver was transported to a hospital by ground ambulance.

The crash shut down the highway for roughly six hours while first responders investigated and cleared the scene. The Iowa State Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash.
