Norwalk police investigating shooting threats that caused care center lockdown

DES MOINES, Iowa — A lockdown at a Norwalk care facility was the result of threats received Monday night, according to the Norwalk Police Department.

The NPD said staff members at Regency Care Center began receiving phone calls threatening a shooting on Monday night. Police were notified, and the care center’s administration enacted a lockdown for the safety of residents and staff.

Officers with the NPD monitored the outside of the facility Monday overnight into Tuesday morning. They are continuing to investigate the threats.

When police were reached shortly before 7:00 a.m., they told WHO 13 the lockdown was over.

NPD said there’s no indication of a threat to the community in Norwalk.
