2 dead after crash involving tractor in Carroll County

CARROLL COUNTY, Iowa (KCAU) — Two people are dead after a Monday night crash involving a tractor near Carroll, Iowa.

According to the Iowa State Patrol crash report, the crash happened Monday around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of 220th Street and Hawthorne Avenue, about five miles southwest of Carroll.

Elvin Ariel Murillo Castro, 17, of Carroll, was driving a Hyundai Sante Fe north on 220th Street. The report states the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and went through the intersection. A John Deere tractor going east then hit the driver side of the Sante Fe.

The driver of the tractor, Troy Bluml, 51, of Carroll, then allegedly left the scene.

Elvin Ariel Murillo Castro and Pedro Castro, 56, of Carroll, who was seated in the rear passenger seat, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger in the Sante Fe was flown by helicopter to a Des Moines hospital for critical injuries.

Bluml was found at his residence and charged with leaving the scene of a crash, the report states.
