April Flea Market showcases over 170 booths

DES MOINES, Iowa — The April Flea Market is taking place this weekend at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

The market takes place in the 4-H Building during the first weekend every month except June, July, and August.

There are 179 booths in total at the event this weekend, with local and out-of-state vendors. Each showcase items like antiques, collectibles, home decor, jewelry, bags and more.

Jan Helm is one of the vendors. Her booth is called Kool + Junk, and she shares antique items that her and her husband, Kevin, find. She has attended the event for over 20 years.

“There’s people that come here every month and I’ve watched little kids grow up over 20 years,” said Jan.

Another vendor is Hollow Hill Design, which showcases hand-cut and hand-bended lawn decorations.

Owner, Lucas Remley, has been making these designs since 1989, but this is his second year attending the flea markets at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

The market started at 9 a.m. Sunday morning and will last until 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The May Flea Market will take place during the first weekend of May.
