POLK COUNTY, Iowa — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rock Island District announced Wednesday that a popular picnic area at Saylorville Lake is experiencing a power failure.
The USACE said the power failure is affecting the Cherry Glen Picnic Area and has resulted in temporary modifications to operations in that area of the park. Those modifications include suspending reservations for picnic shelters, they will now be on a first-come, first-served basis. Restrooms are also closed, but portable toilets will still be available. The park will continue to be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
Repairs are underway, but an exact completion date is not known at this time, the USACE said. A cause for the power failure has not been released.
