DES MOINES, Iowa — A field fire covering around six acres broke out in a wooded area north of Des Moines on Saturday.
According to Des Moines Fire Department Stacia Swanson, just before 2 p.m. three engine crews were called to an area near the 4100 block of 15th Street on reports of a field fire.
Due to the spread, assistance was called in from Ankeny, Johnston-Grimes, and Saylor Township who provided engines, brush trucks and UTV’s.
Windy conditions allowed the fire to spread across six acres of field, which proved difficult to access by firefighters. Crews also faced a difficultly keeping water on the flames.
It took fire crews till just before 5 p.m. to contain the flames. No property damage or injuries have been reported.
An investigation into the cause of the fire has been opened.
