Forecast: Storm chances and cooler temps

Quite a differing day from northwest to southeast in Iowa on Saturday, and we managed to stay on the warm side of things in Des Moines and areas south. Your weather timeline brings you a cool change:

The SPC and Colorado State’s severe outlooks give us a slight chance of seeing severe weather with a couple of rounds of storms ahead for the evening…

Hail is the main threat with these, but there’s also a nonzero small tornado threat. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for you. It appears one line will come through during the early evening hours, with another around midnight, as the HRRR computer model shows below. Showers may linger central in the morning, then rain chances shift to northern Iowa. We may also see wet snowflakes mix in in the north Sunday evening. Only minor accumulations on grassy areas are expected as shown in the snowfall image below.

Another round of rain and storms comes our way late Tuesday into Wednesday morning, with a slight chance of seeing severe weather during that timeframe.

Winds will pick up Tuesday and strengthen into Wednesday, and showers may linger into the afternoon.
