DES MOINES, Iowa — Drake University announced on Friday that it has hired South Dakota State’s Eric Henderson as its next men’s basketball head coach.
Henderson played college basketball under Greg McDermott at Wayne State College in Nebraska and later joined McDermott at Iowa State as a graduate manager. In 2019 Henderson succeeded T.J. Otzelberger and was named head coach at South Dakota State University.
While at SDSU Henderson led the Jackrabbits to the NCAA Tournament twice. He was also named the Summit League Coach of the Year during his first season with the Jackrabbits.
Henderson is taking over the Drake head coaching position after it was announced that former head coach Ben McCollum would be taking over as head coach of the University of Iowa men’s basketball team.
