DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Transportation has planned a week of overnight closures along sections of Interstates 35 and 80 in Clive.
The closures are part of the next stage in the U.S. 6/Hickman Road interchange project. According to the Iowa DOT Grimes Construction office, the first closure will begin on March 23, weather permitting, and requires lane closures each night to shift traffic.
Here are the expected closures and detours,
Sunday, March 23
- One of the lanes of westbound I-35/I-80 will be closed from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Monday, March 24.
- The eastbound exit ramp to U.S. 6/Hickman Road (exit 125) will be closed from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Monday, March 24.
Monday, March 24
- Full closure of westbound I-35/I-80 from the west I-35/I-80/I-235 systems interchange to Iowa 141 from 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25.
Tuesday, March 25
- Full closure of westbound I-35/I-80 from the west I-35/I-80/I-235 systems interchange to Iowa 141 from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Wednesday March 26
Wednesday, March 26
- Full closure of eastbound I-35/I-80 from the west I-35/I-80/I-235 systems interchange to Iowa 141 from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Thursday, March 27.
Thursday, March 27
- Full closure of eastbound I-35/I-80 from the west I-35/I-80/I-235 systems interchange to Iowa 141 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Friday, March 28.
During the closure, drivers will follow a detour using I-235, Valley West Drive, Northwest 100th Street, and Norwest Urbandale Drive. You can view a map here.
While in work zones, the DOT reminds drivers to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and other signs, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seats belts. Traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.
