OurQuadCities(WHBF) — The Iowa Women will take on Murray State in Norman, Oklahoma tomorrow in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Racers boast the top scoring offense in college basketball, averaging 87.8 points per game.
Katelyn Young, the team’s leading scorer has amassed over 3,000 career points at Murray State. The 6’1 post player leads a team with three players contributing over 15 points per game. Murray State won the Missouri Valley Conference handily, and gave LSU and Alabama a tough test in non-conference play.
“We’re just going to try to stop them the best we can, but nobody has so far,” head coach Jan Jensen said. “It’s going to be a really good challenge.”
“Being a mid-major team and seeing them put up that many points we have all the respect for them,” Sydney Affolter said. “Obviously we don’t fear anyone we’re going to go out there and we know who we are and how good we are. We like to push the ball as well.”
The reigning national runner-ups will have their hands full, though Iowa’s typically struggled more with defensive-minded teams than offensive juggernauts. The Hawkeyes and Racers will tip things off at 11 A.M. in Norman.
