Extensive damage reported in Des Moines house fire

DES MOINES, Iowa — Extensive damage was reported following a house fire in northeast Des Moines on Friday afternoon.

The Delaware Township Fire Department and Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2800 block of northeast 52nd court around 2:30 p.m. on reports of a house fire.

Once firefighters were on scene, a second alarm was issued due to the amount of smoke. Additional agencies including the Pleasant Hill and Altoona Fire Department were called to the scene.

According to investigators, the fire started in the basement and caused extensive smoke damage throughout the home.

No injuries to pets or persons who evacuated the household at the time of the fire have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
