DES MOINES, Iowa — Officials have released the name of a man who was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle in the northeast part of Des Moines on Wednesday.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Cody Stanley, age 22 of Ankeny, was hit by a vehicle that was southbound on N.E. 14th Street and merging onto the I-80 eastbound on-ramp just before 2:00 a.m.

Witnesses told investigators Stanley was walking in the travel portion of the roadway when the accident happened. The driver of the vehicle stopped and called 911 immediately.

Stanley remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The PCSO said the area where the accident happened doesn’t have sidewalks or crosswalks and is not well-lit.
