Storms still on the horizon for Friday

Our beautiful spring weather continues for most of the work week, but by Friday night’s commute home stormy weather will be rumbling in Iowa. A few storms may even be severe.

Central Iowa and Eastern Iowa are both part of a Slight Risk area for severe storms late Friday afternoon and evening. The highest potential for severe storms is in the far southeast corner of the state.

It will be a very warm and windy day ahead of the storms. Temps will make it near record highs in the upper 70s. A warm front will lift across the state in the morning, ushering strong south-southeast winds. Some of these winds may gust over 40 mph during the day.

Between 4 and 5 PM, a line of storms will start to fire up along a front coming in from the southwest. These storms may produce damaging winds and large hail. There is an isolated tornado threat. The storms will quickly move east through the night, taking the severe threat with them.

The stormy weather Friday night will usher in cool and breezy weather for the weekend with highs in the 40s. It’s short-lived with a return to Spring and the 60s next week.
