Woman drove herself to Des Moines hospital after being shot, police say

DES MOINES, Iowa — A woman was seriously injured Monday night in a shooting in Des Moines’ Prospect Park neighborhood.

According to Des Moines Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek, officers were called to the 2600 block of Boston Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. on a report of gunfire. While police were responding, they were notified about a woman with a gunshot wound who had driven herself to Broadlawns Medical Center.

Officers discovered shell casings in the roadway at Boston Avenue and also found a vehicle at the hospital that had damage caused by gunfire.

The 32-year-old victim remains hospitalized with serious injuries

Sgt. Parizek said the evidence in the case indicates the shooting was targeted and there isn’t any ongoing danger to the public.

No information about a possible suspect was released. The investigation is continuing and Sgt. Parizek said no arrests have been made in the case.
