POLK COUNTY, Iowa — Two people were injured in a crash in rural Polk County Monday morning.
At around 11:30 a.m. deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a crash on a bridge crossing the Des Moines River in the 9500 block of Highway 316, just south of Runnells.
According to the sheriff’s office, when first responders arrived at the scene they found one vehicle with two occupants inside had crashed into an unoccupied vehicle. The unoccupied vehicle was parked on the bridge while a survey was taking place in the area.
The adult female driver was transported to a hospital via ambulance with unknown injuries and her passenger, an adult male, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.
The sheriff’s office said the road will be closed for approximately two to three hours while an investigation of the crash scene takes place. No additional information has been released.
