FERGUSON, Iowa — A State Center man was recovered from Green Castle Lake in Marshall County on Friday afternoon.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, deputies were called to the Green Castle Recreation Area to locate an overdue fisherman.
Deputies arrived on scene and found an unresponsive male partially submerged in an open water area at Green Castle Lake. The Marshalltown Fire Department initiated a cold-water rescue, the man was transferred to the shoreline.
Once on land, emergency medical personnel began administering first aid. The man was transported by ambulance to a Marshalltown hospital where he later died.
The fisherman has been identified as 64-year-old Timothy Eggers from State Center, Iowa.
Officers have opened an investigation; preliminary investigation indicates ice conditions on the lake were a contributing factor in Egger’s death.
