DES MOINES, Iowa — The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden announced on Thursday the launch of a capital campaign for a $9 million upgrade.
The “Welcome, Gather, Grow” Campaign aims to raise over $9 million by summer 2025 to renovate the existing building and add more garden space. The upgrades include:
- Making the Botanical Garden more welcoming by adding free-access gardens, updated wayfinding and educational signs, and a statement entrance arch.
- Creating more gathering space by updating the Gardeners Show House and North Gallery event spaces.
- Adding a new lobby with a dedicated admission space, adding a new outdoor garden access, and expanding the garden shop.
According to the botanical garden, the upgrades are needed due to the growing demand from the community.
“Each year nearly 150,000 visitors from all 50 states make a stop to the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden,” Kim Perez, CEO and Botanical Garden president, said. “For some, it’s a destination. For others, it’s a regular part of their respite, culture, or education practices. Since opening the doors 45 years ago, the Botanical Garden has become a place where all feel welcome to gather, grow, and find their true nature. This campaign ensures we can continue to do that for generations to come.”
The botanical garden said over $8 million has been raised so far for the campaign. Now, the botanical garden is asking the community to help raise the remaining $1 million. To learn more about the campaign and how to donate visit the botanical garden’s website.
