GRINNELL, Iowa — An Urbandale man is dead following a crash on Interstate 80 Saturday morning.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, at approximately 10:45 a.m. a crash involving a semi-truck occurred in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80.

The semi was traveling in the eastbound lanes of I-80 when it entered the median and struck the cable barrier. The semi then went between the bridge decks and struck the creek bed.

The driver of the semi, 45-year-old Mebratu Wonjala, died on scene.

The Iowa State Patrol has opened an investigation into the crash.
