Ames man charged for allegedly shooting Good Boy the dog

AMES, Iowa — An Ames man has been charged for allegedly shooting a dog, named Good Boy, in January.

On January 14 the Ames Animal Control responded to a report of an injured dog near Lark Avenue and SE 16th Street. The dog was located and transported to a vet clinic for treatment where it was discovered that the dog had bullet fragments in his skull.

The City of Ames said on Friday that the dog, now named Good Boy, is continuing to recover at a foster home.

Good Boy’s former owner was tracked down by Ames police and animal control officers. According to the city, 33-year-old Zachary B. Bale admitted to shooting Good Boy and dumping him in a field. Bale was arrested and charged with animal abuse and animal neglect resulting in serious injury.
