DES MOINES, Iowa – The action on the mats kicked off Wednesday morning in the Boys State Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines.
It’s the 100th edition of the tournament under the banner of the Iowa High School Athletic Association, and it’s the 20th year the event has been held at Wells Fargo Arena.
More than 1,000 wrestlers will compete over four days in three classes with 14 weights per class, and 24 qualifiers per weight. Forty-two wrestlers will win state championships on Saturday night.
This year’s tournament brings a few changes to the venue.
The north entrance will be exit only, so fans headed in from the parking lots off Third Street should keep that in mind, they’ll need to walk a little farther.
The south entrance will be entry only. Fans can also use the skywalk entrance along the west side of the arena.
Fans should keep these things in mind:
- Tickets are mobile only.
- Clear bags and small purses are allowed inside the venue.
- Wells Fargo Arena is now a cashless facility. You can transfer cash onto a gift card at the arena if you do not have a card with you.
- Doors open one hour before each session unless the previous session runs long.
