3-year-old Marshalltown girl dies from injuries suffered in house fire

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — The three-year-old girl injured in Monday’s Marshalltown house fire has died.

According to the Marshalltown Fire Department, the 3-year-old girl died from her injuries on Wednesday morning at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The fire occurred around 4 p.m. at the 500 block of East Church Street, where two firefighters attempted to use a ladder to access the back of the house, and two firefighters entered through the front of the house.

The two firefighters who entered through the front found the 3-year-old girl unconscious on the second floor. She was then transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics via air ambulance.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. More information will be released as it becomes available.
